A fusion human growth hormone gene driven by the mouse metallothionein-1 promoter was successfully introduced into the fertilized eggs of loach and red crucian carp using a capacitor-based electroporator. The results of DNA hybridization showed that the transfer efficiency and the transgene copy number per genome were positively correlated to the voltage, duration and capacity of the pulse. Under optimum conditions, a transfer efficiency of up to 62.5% was achieved. Some fish arising from embryos treated in this manner exhibited over 100 copies of the transgene integrated into their genomes
