The profession of youth work is changing, moving from open access youth work to targeted work. In the face of this change, this study seeks to understand why youth work and nonformal learning are successful developmental processes for young people and if situated in the environment of a school, these successes can be replicated. This research follows a postpositivist methodological approach based on a case study of a school and youth club at the same location. Qualitative methods were used for the research including two focus groups, an unstructured interview and creative approaches. A process of inductive reasoning was used to analyse the data.
