Eating disorders are complex and biopsychosocial in nature. Some of these disorders are defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), a powerful document that has shaped the research and treatment of eating disorders, with a particular focus on anorexia and bulimia in clinical settings (Arnaiz, 2009; Black, 2003; Gremillion, 2002; Wilson, 2004).
