Aortic regurgitation (AR) is common in middle-aged horses. Although, usually, AR degenerates slowly with minimal impact on athletic activity, horses with moderate/severe AR are at increased risk of sudden cardiac death due to ventricular arrhythmias. Therefore, when a horse is engaged in high-intensity competitive sports, it is important to evaluate the impact of AR on performance and to assess whether the horse is safe to ride. Moreover, it is mandatory to provide a correct prognosis about the progression of the disease [1].
