Cuerpos, música y emociones. Una etnografía de una compañía de danza

The richness of dance comes from the need to work with an individual body, which is not transferable, with its emotions, skills and physicality. But the body of the dancer belongs to plural context, crossed by artistic and social traditions, which locate the artists in a given field. We address the production of discourse in a British dance company through Critical Discourse Analysis of interviews to the dancers and the choreographer. The data spawns from the ethnography Dance and Cognition, directed by David Kirsh at the University of California, together with WayneMcgregor�]Random Dance. Six cameras were used to record the rehearsal process for Dyad (2009), FAR (2010) and UNDANCE (2011). In order not to get lost with the data, we classified the type of interactions and sorted through the channels of communication. Our analysis shows how creativity in dance seems to be empirically observable, and thus embodied and distributed as a social product. The emotional performances involved in dance rehearsals differ for the dancers and the choreographer and have necessarily a component of music. In all, the communicative interactions expressed by the members of the dance company are shaped by the dance habitus of their particular social context.La riqueza de la danza viene de la necesidad de trabajar con un cuerpo individual, que no es transferible, con sus emociones, destrezas y fisicalidades. Pero el cuerpo del bailarin pertenece a un contexto plural, cruzado por tradiciones artisticas y sociales que posiciona el artista en un campo dado. Nos centramos en la produccion de discurso en una compania de danza inglesa con la aplicacion del Analisis Critico del Discurso a un corpus de entrevistas a bailarinas y coreografo. Estos datos pertenecen al al proyecto etnografico Dance and Cognition, dirigido por David Kirsh de la University of California, junto con la WayneMcgregor¿]Random Dance Company. Seis camaras fueron utilizadas para grabar los procesos de ensayos de Dyad (2009), FAR (2010) y UNDANCE (2011). En nuestro analisis hemos clasificado el tipo de interacciones y seleccionado los canales comunicativos. Presentamos como la creatividad en danza se puede observar empiricamente, como un producto social distribuido y corporeo. Las performances emocionales involucradas en los ensayos de danza difieren de los bailarines y el coreografo, y tienen necesariamente una componente musical. En definitiva, las interacciones comunicativas expresadas en el discurso de la compania se configura a partir del habitus de danza de su particular contexto social
