In this work we present a model of teachers� training that, in a variety of empirical studies made from an ethnographic approach (Alsina, 2007, Alsina & Planas, 2007, 2009), has demonstrated to be effective both in the didactic and the disciplinary formation of mathematics teachers. This model of formation, denominated realistic learning (Esteve, Melief, Alsina, 2009, Comenius Project, 2003-2005), arises from the mathematical education research. In particular, it is based on the Realistic Mathematical Education founded by the German mathematician Hans Freudenthal (1905-1990).
