There has been strong progress in understanding social mobilization. However, subjective features still hide great dilemmas. Their unraveling may lead to enlarge the potential transforming power of collective action in order to develop more democratic societies. This essay offers a characterization of contemporary Mexican social protest’s imaginaries, through the analysis of its demands and repertoires, as indicators of its political projects and strategic conceptions. The main idea is that most of the cases show a so called proto-citizen imaginary, in their demands as well as in their repertoires.
