Cervicofacial subcutaneous emphysema relates to the presence of air on the interior of subcutaneous tissue of the head and neck. Given that the spaces between the deep cervical fascial planes of the head and neck are contiguous with the mediastinal space, the air can spread rapidly causing pneumomediastinum, which can lead to serious complications. In spite of being rare, there are reported cases of cervicofacial subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum after endodental treatments.
