Relación entre apego paterno e infantil, habilidades sociales, monoparentalidad y exclusión social

There is evidence of the relationship between adult attachment style and childhood attachment. Both attachment style and parental parenting patterns can influence the acquisition of social skills in children. Most of the previous studies address these relationships in a normal population; but little is known about its implications for single-parent families at risk of social exclusion. The objective of this study was to analyze the possible relationship between the attachment style of parents, the one they maintain with their children and the level of social skills of children in single-parent families at risk of social exclusion. Participants were 39 families with children between 6 and 12 years old participated. Participants were recruited from care centers. The social skills scale of the Easterbrooks Teacher Assessment of Peer Skills, the Balluerka CaMI-R questionnaire and the Kaplan Separation Anxiety Test were applied. The results indicated that there are differences in the attachment of children according to the style of adult attachment, finding greater agreement in the style of secure attachment between parents and children. However, the children’s acquisition of social skills was not significantly related to the parents’ attachment style. It is necessary to conduct new research to elucidate the possible relationship between these variables and their relevance in treatments and educational programs such as schools of parents specifically aimed at this population.Existen evidencias de la relación entre el estilo de apego adulto y el apego infantil. Tanto el estilo de apego como los patrones de crianza paternos pueden influir en la adquisición de habilidades sociales en los niños. La mayoría de estudios abordan estas relaciones en población normal, y poco se sabe sobre sus implicaciones en familias monoparentales con riesgo de exclusión social. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la relación entre el estilo de apego de los padres, el que mantienen con sus hijos y el nivel de habilidades sociales de los hijos, en familias monoparentales con riesgo de exclusión social. Participaron 39 familias con niños entre 6 y 12 años. Los participantes fueron reclutados del centro social. Se aplicó la escala de habilidades sociales del Teacher Assessment of Peer Skills de Easterbrooks, el cuestionario CaMI-R de Balluerka y el Separation Anxiety Test de Kaplan. Los resultados indicaron que existen diferencias en el apego de los niños en función del estilo de apego adulto, encontrando mayor concordancia en el estilo de apego seguro entre padres e hijos. Sin embargo, la adquisición de habilidades sociales de los niños no estuvo relacionada significativamente con el estilo de apego de los padres. Es necesario realizar nuevas investigaciones para dilucidar la posible relación entre estas variables y su relevancia en los tratamientos y programas educativos como escuelas de padres específicamente dirigidos a esta població
