Desfile inesperado al progreso centroamericano: Contraste identitario del transitar afrodescendiente a la vuelta del siglo XX

This article refers to a historiographic and comparative analysis of Afro-descendant populations in the region, in census, legal and national-identity terms. After the abolition of slavery, the fiction of the black race as well as its unfavorable connotation does not disappear; and rather it becomes evident with the unexpected incursion of Afro-Caribbean migration throughout the region, starting in the second half of the 19th century. Although the desired migrants were whites and/or Europeans, the liberal and political elites of the region assume the miscegenation in a differentiated manner, as the integrating nucleus of their identities; besides using immigration laws to stimulate these purposes, while the constitutional frameworks were gradually modified to respond to the new nationality profiles in: Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.El presente artículo refiere a un análisis historiográfico y comparativo de las poblaciones afrodescendientes de la región, en términos censales, legales e identitario-nacionales. Posterior a la abolición de la esclavitud, la ficción de la raza negra, así como su connotación desfavorable no desaparece; antes bien se hace evidente con la incursión inesperada de la migración afrocaribeña en toda la región, a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Aunque los migrantes deseados eran los blancos o europeos, las élites liberales y políticas de la región asumen el mestizaje de manera diferenciada, como núcleo integrador de sus identidades; además de servirse de leyes de inmigración para estimular dichos propósitos, mientras se iban modificando paulatinamente los marcos constitucionales para responder a los nuevos perfiles de nacionalidad en: Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica y Panamá
