Madero, ¿un santo? Hagiografía espírita liberal en un escrito de Rogelio Fernández Güell, de 1911

This article shows how the Costa Rican poet and journalist Rogelio Fernández Güell constructs an hagiography of Francisco I. Madero at a key moment in History: elected President of Mexico will assume the Head of State in November of 1911, and critical voices lack against his supposed missing "gift of command" and his “disability” to govern the nation after the Mexican Revolution. Through persuasive rhetorical strategies, as in the past centuries they were used to tell life of saints, the author pushes to convince and to guide future governed people. He also defends Madero, the first President of Mexico elected by popular vote in the 20th Century, and for this purpose he summarizes his origins, his providential obedience, his spirituality, visions and revelations he had and the great miracle that means overthrowing Porfirio Díaz’s long dictatorship. Liberal leader’s “study of personality" is finished, after explaining the way Madero was illuminated from Heaven to lead Mexican nation into a new route.En el presente artículo se muestra cómo el poeta y periodista costarricense Rogelio Fernández Güell construye una hagiografía de Francisco I. Madero en un momento clave: el presidente electo de México asumirá la Jefatura de Estado, en noviembre de 1911, y ya se alzan las críticas sobre su falta de “don de mando” y “capacidad” para gobernar la nación después de la Revolución mexicana. A través de persuasivas estrategias retóricas, como en siglos pasados se emplearon para contar las vidas de los santos, el autor quiere convencer y orientar a los futuros gobernados. El también espiritista defiende a Madero, el primer presidente de México electo por el voto popular en el siglo XX y, para ello, resume sus orígenes, su proceder providencial, su espiritualidad, las visiones y revelaciones que tuvo y el gran milagro que constituye haber derrocado a la longeva dictadura de Porfirio Díaz.
