Micro-algae are sources of lipids with the potential to produce biofuels and large-scale dietary supplements. The present study aims evaluates the role of organic solvents of non-polar and polar-protic types (ratio 1: 2) in the extraction and quantification of total lipids and fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) of Scenedesmus microalgae. sp. The freeze-dried micro-algae samples were quantified by modified Blight & Dyer (B&D) and pretreated with hydrochloric acid 3 mol.L-1 (with and without HCl). Chloroform was replaced by ethyl acetate, petroleum ether and ethyl ether and methanol by ethanol, Isopropanol and tert-butanol.
