This work aims to analyse the novel Ponciá Vicêncio (2003) by the writer Conceição Evaristo, framing it in the Afro-Brazilian literary tradition. Evaristo's poetics of the escrevivência is made seeking to approach elements and social practices present in some African ethnic groups. Our objective is to verify how the memories of the slavery and African ancestry preservation are articulated in the narrative.
