Los indios infieles han quebrantado la paz. Negociaciones entre agentes europeos, chocoes y cunas en el Darién, 1739-1789

This article analyzes one of the mechanisms that Europeans uses to control the indigenous groups in America during the viceroyal era: signing treaties and negotiations. This paper will focus on the case of the Cunas, an indigenous group that habits in the region situated between the Panama’s isthmus and the gulf of Darien, and helping by the foreign sailors, maintenance the war to the European military during the 18th century. The article analyzes the speech used by the Europeans to invade the region, and the permanently negotiations and ethnic alliances that Cunas establishment whit and other indigenous group, the Chocoes, to demonstrate resistance. That process meant to the Spaniards the acceptation of an unfinished process of “buen gobierno”El artículo analiza uno de los mecanismos de poder utilizados por agentes europeos frente a algunos grupos indí- genas de las Indias durante la época virreinal: la firma de tratados y otras negociaciones.
