Diferencias en la aspiración y pérdida de la /s/ implosiva entre el norte y el sur del extremeño

The aspiration and loss of syllable and word final /s/ is one of the most salient characteristics of Extremenian. However, the phenomenon is not restricted to Extremadura, but extends from the southern to the central parts of Spain. In spite of many investigators’ efforts, questions about both temporal and geographical origins of the phenomenon still remain unanswered. In this study, we investigate the differences in the aspiration and loss of syllable and word final /s/ between the North and the South of Extremenian. The results show that even though there are no great differences in the aspiration of syllable final /s/ between the North and the South of Extremadura, the sibilant is pronounced more frequently in the North and dropped more often in the SouthLa aspiración de la /s/ implosiva es una de las características más destacadas del extremeño. A pesar de los esfuerzos de muchos investigadores, tanto la época en la que la aspiración de la /s/ empezó a presentarse como el origen geográfico del fenómeno aún están sin determinar. En este estudio, investigamos las diferencias en la aspiración y pérdida de la /s/ implosiva entre el norte y el sur del extremeño. Los resultados muestran que aunque la aspiración de la /s/ es de igual vitalidad en el norte que en el sur de Extremadura, en el norte la sibilante se pronuncia con más frecuencia mientras que en el sur presenta mayor tendencia a perderse
