The article argues thesocial construction ofgender in sexual division of work, andhow this divisionassignsdifferentvalues todifferent jobs. This debatehas transcendedCosta Ricaninstitutionsthroughco-responsibility for care workfrom two unresolved phenomena:the change in household composition and the entry of women into the labour market, situations that have created newconditions for women.
