Santiago de Chile is characterized by intensive land use changes that are caused, among others, by a rapid expansion of residential areas. This results in new sociospatial differentiation patterns that in some parts of the city cause a physical proximity between social groups with different levels of educational attainment. This paper analyses the relationship between the new spatial and social patterns for one specific study area in the municipality of Peñalolén, combining census data with the results of remote sensing analysis.
