Tecnologías del alma: Artefactos culturales de saber y poder.

Psychotherapy, defined from its etymology as “treatment of the soul”, is presented as a technological artifact –“technology of the soul”–, a product of knowledge about the internal experience of individuals, who emerge and take as a conceptual framework the dominant understanding of the cosmos, and the ideals and values of the sociocultural context in which such experience develops itself.This article focuses on the elaboration of a brief review on the way knowledge, processes and devices, that have accompanied man in his becoming, have been configuring themselves, trying to explain, control and grasp his inner world, the “invisible” experience of his passions and emotions, which become visible through his behaviors and attitudes. Departing from this, there is an initial description about the way these technologies become power structures, a power based on the knowledge that finds its substance in the understanding of the particular cosmos, and that, from use or abuse, establish a dominion over human life and freedom.La psicoterapia, definida desde su etimología como «tratamiento del alma», se presenta como un artefacto tecnológico –«tecnología del alma»–, producto de saberes sobre la experiencia interna de los sujetos, los cuales emergen y toman como marco conceptual la cosmovisión predominante y los ideales y valores del contexto sociocultural en el que se desarrolla dicha experiencia. Este artículo hace un breve repaso de la manera como se han ido configurando los saberes, procedimientos y dispositivos que han acompañado al hombre en su devenir al tratar de explicar, controlar y conocer su mundo interno –la experiencia «invisible» de sus pasiones y emociones–, que se hace visible en sus conductas y actitudes. A partir de este examen se elabora una descripción inicial para explicar cómo estas tecnologías se convierten en estructuras de poder fundamentado en el saber que encuentra su sustento en cosmovisiones particulares, y que, desde su uso –o abuso– determinado, establecen un dominio sobre la vida y la libertad humanas
