Los centros de interpretación como motor de desarrollo turístico local: ¿un modelo fracasado? El caso de la provincia de Cádiz

The aim of this paper is to analyse the visitor centers located in the different municipalities within the province of Cádiz. The working hypothesis formulated are the benefits these centers offer to the tourists and the necessity of making certain changes in the planning and managing of these centers from a territorial, social and commercial point of view. The concept «visitor center» is quite recent. There are no general regulations either defining or classifying for this type of centers. The visitor centers have been studied by combining different tools of quantitative and qualitative analysis. In the province of Cádiz, a total of 79 visitor centers within the 44 municipalities have been registered, which means the average of 1.7 centers per town. On the basis of the results obtained, a SWOT has been carried out in order to facilitate the development of proposals which aim to improve and redefine the planning and managing the visitor centers and to guarantee the survival and the future of these centers within a new model of provincial tourism which prioritizes sustainability and territorial balanceEste texto tiene como finalidad el análisis de los centros de interpretación existentes en los municipios de la provincia de Cádiz planteándose como hipótesis de trabajo la conveniencia para la oferta turística provincial de este tipo de centros y la necesidad de realizar cambios en la planificación y en la gestión de estos establecimientos tanto desde el punto de vista territorial como social y comercial. El uso del concepto de centro de interpretación es relativamente reciente. No existen normativas generales definitorias o clasificatorias de este tipo de centros. Se han estudiado los centros a través de diferentes herramientas de análisis que combinan lo cuantitativo y lo cualitativo. En la provincia de Cádiz se han documentado un total de 79 centros de interpretación para los 44 municipios que supone una media de 1,7 centros por municipio distribuidos por toda la geografía gaditana. A partir de los resultados obtenidos se ha realizado un básico análisis DAFO que facilita la elaboración de conclusiones y propuestas que buscan mejorar y redefinir la planificación y gestión del sistema de centros de interpretación garantizando la pervivencia y el futuro de estos dentro de un nuevo modelo de turismo provincial que prime la sostenibilidad y el desarrollo territorial
