Because Modernity regained the prestige of democracy as a regime, democracy was erected as a revolution in the buried absolutist forms of power, at the same time that it was constituted as the signifier of “universal suffrage”, “representation”, “ majorities “,” political equality ... “. However, everything indicates that these new meanings of a liberal nature are not coherent with the authentic qualities of the term “democracy” and that apparently the belief that we live governed by democratic governments is nothing more than a mirage. With the aim of elucidating the tension between the old and modern meanings of the signifier “democracy”, and since the realities that are transformed in the world of life depend on the harmony of the signs, it was proposed to relate by means of the synthetic method two superficially isolated and incompatible categories: the idea of democracy and the linguistic sign. Likewise, in the writing, communicating vessels were drawn up with the categories of ethics and morals, under the hypothesis that while ethics inspires reflection on meanings, in this case, the qualities of “universal suffrage,” “representation,” “expression of majorities” e “political equality” that have been committed to democracy; morality encourages the sacralization of signifiers, that is, the form of democratic government by the mere fact of being ancient, independent of the meanings attributed. Finally, it was possible to conclude that modern democracy is an annulment of human action, a mirage in which the good and the unjust coincide, morality and the denial of ethics.Debido a que la Modernidad recobró el prestigio de la democracia como régimen, la democracia se erigió como una revolución en las soterradas formas absolutistas de poder, al tiempo que se constituyó como el significante del “sufragio universal”, la “representación”, las “mayorías”, la “igualdad política…”. Sin embargo, todo indica que estos nuevos significados de carácter liberal no son coherentes con las auténticas cualidades del término “democracia” y que al parecer la creencia de que vivimos regidos por gobiernos democráticos no es más que un espejismo. Con el objetivo de elucidar la tensión entre los significados antiguos y modernos del significante “democracia”, y puesto que de la armonía de los signos dependen las realidades que se transforman en el mundo de la vida, se propuso relacionar por medio del método sintético dos categorías superficialmente aisladas e incompatibles: la idea de democracia y el signo lingüístico. Igualmente, en el escrito se trazaron vasos comunicantes con las categorías de ética y moral, bajo la hipótesis de que mientras la ética inspira a reflexionar sobre los significados, en este caso, las cualidades de “sufragio universal”, “representación”, “expresión de mayorías” e “igualdad política” que se le han endilgado a la democracia; la moral incita a sacralizar los significantes, esto es, la forma de gobierno democrática por el solo hecho de ser antigua, independiente a los significados atribuidos. Finalmente, se logró concluir que la democracia moderna es una anulación de la acción humana, un espejismo en el cual coinciden lo bueno y lo injusto, la moral y la negación de la ética
