In the last six decades the phenomenon of self-deception has been subject of increasing interest not only in the philosophical domain, in which classically was studied, but in several sciences too, including psychology, neurosciences, evolutionary biology and social sciences. This increased interest has resulted in a plenty of questions and theoretical proposals, but we are at the present far from a unified theory that enjoys of general acceptance.
