La independencia de las colonias americanas y el destino de la lengua española en España y América

This article discusses the consequences for the Spanish language of the end of the Spanish colonial empire through three aspects: the name of the language, the spelling, and the possible fragmentation of the Spanish language, in a similar manner to how the end of the Roman Empire would have caused the fragmentation of the Latin language. The work pretends to be an introduction to the controversy started by the efforts of maintaining the Spanish linguistic unity by the Spanish language institutions, that has been questioned by some linguists, accused of being based on a neo-colonialist linguistics ideology, they have branded it as the Battle of the Language.Este artículo analiza las consecuencias para la lengua española del fin del imperio colonial hispánico en tres aspectos: el nombre de la lengua, la ortografía y la posible fragmentación de la lengua española, de manera análoga a cómo el fin del Imperio Romano habría causado la fragmentación de la lengua latina. El trabajo pretende servir como introducción a la polémica suscitada por los esfuerzos para mantener la unidad lingüística del español, por parte de las instituciones lingüísticas hispánicas y que han sido cuestionados por algunos lingüistas, acusados de estar basados en una ideología lingüística neocolonialistas, y a los que se ha dado el nombre de Batalla del Idioma
