Masculinidades, Nación y familia. Representaciones de la masculinidad en la primera mitad del siglo XX en Bogotá

This article aims to propose a reflection on the representations of masculinity circulating in Bogotá during the first half of the 20th century and its articulation with the national project and the model for family intended to be imposed. In that sense, the study addresses the research question, which were the representations of masculinity circulating in Bogotá during the first half of the 20th century and their influence on family and nation? To answer it, a first objective is to approach the analysis of the concept of masculinities, highlighting that this term was coined after the studied period of time, but that nevertheless is useful as an element of analysis in order to understand the different gender roles society assigns in each era. A second objective is to review the State-Nation project intended to be developed since the 19th century and the revitalization such a project had during the first half of the 20th century; this with the goal of a consolidation of a national identity. The third objective addresses the family typologies and their legal representations, developed from rites as the Catholic and civil marriage-institutions that, in addition, were mandatory, hegemonic, hetero centered, and andro-centered. In order to fulfill these objectives, a documental research methodology was implemented, trawling through different written documents available in archives and libraries in the city. Secondly, the information was systematized using an indexing technique, where a specific nomenclature for the analysis and assessing of texts was proposed. Then, the written version of the research started to be developed, one that allowed important findings when examining how these different elements were articulated, reproducing a discourse of gender differentiation and some masculine roles associated with the ideas of strength, heroism, and virility, where these features had to represent, furthermore, the ideal of the nation.El presente texto tiene como objeto hacer una reflexión sobre las representaciones que se tenían de la masculinidad en Bogotá en la primera mitad del siglo XX y su articulación con el proyecto nacional y el modelo de familia que se buscaba imponer. En este sentido, responde a la pregunta de investigación ¿Cuáles son las representaciones que sobre masculinidad se hacían en Bogotá y su influencia en la familia y la nación, en la primera mitad del siglo XX? Para ello, un primer objetivo es el de hacer un acercamiento al análisis del concepto de masculinidades, aclarando que es una noción que surge con posterioridad a la época estudiada pero que sirve como un elemento de análisis para comprender los diferentes roles de género que la sociedad atribuye en cada época. Un segundo objetivo hace una revisión sobre el proyecto de Estado-Nación que se buscó desarrollar desde el siglo XIX y la revitalización que este proyecto tiene en la primera mitad del siglo XX con el fin de consolidar una identidad nacional. El tercer objetivo aborda las tipologías de familia y sus representaciones jurídicas, que se desarrollan a partir de ritos como el matrimonio católico y el matrimonio civil, instituciones que por demás eran de corte imperativo, hegemónico, heterocentrado y androcéntrico. Para lograr el desarrollo de los objetivos, se utilizó la metodología de investigación documental, a través del rastreo de diversos documentos escritos, la búsqueda en archivos y bibliotecas de la ciudad. Paso seguido, se sistematizó la información, por medio de la técnica de fichaje, en donde se hizo una nomenclatura específica para el análisis y reflexión de los textos. Posteriormente, se empezó con la escritura del texto que permitió hacer hallazgos importantes al examinar cómo estos diferentes elementos se articularon para reproducir un discurso de diferenciación de género y unos roles masculinos que se asociaban a la fuerza, el heroísmo y la virilidad; siendo además estos atributos los que debían representar el ideal de Nación
