Competitividad en las organizaciones: las mipymes del sector manufacturero en Sincelejo, Sucre - Colombia

In Latin America, small and medium enterprises - Pymes occupy a privileged position within the business community; they account for about 99,0% of all enterprises in the region and generate employment to more than 60,0% of all workers (OCDE/CEPAL, 2012). According Llisterri, et al, (2002), the competencies of Pymes to assimilate knowledge and technology to produce, cooperate and compete in markets are crucial to generate competitiveness in nations; however, the reality is very different, especially in regions like Latin America, where the contribution of these businesses to Gross Domestic Product - GDP is relatively low, which reveals deficiencies in productivity levels (OCDE/CEPAL, 2012). The aim of this study is to evaluate some aspects of the competitiveness of manufacturing companies in the city of Sincelejo; for this, information was investigated over a hundred Mipymes. Although most employers surveyed (94,0%) felt that their company is competitive, they have disadvantageous conditions in various organizational areas, which make them have low levels of competitiveness. According to the empirical results there is a positive correlation between operating income and size of firms, thus small business seems to be at a disadvantage in relation to big businessEn América Latina, las pequeñas y medianas empresas - Pymes, ocupan un lugar privilegiado dentro del tejido empresarial; éstas, representan alrededor del 99,0% del total de empresas en la región, y generan empleo a más del 60,0% del total de trabajadores (OCDE/CEPAL, 2012). Según Llisterri, et al., (2002), las competencias de las Pymes para asimilar conocimientos y tecnología para producir, cooperar y competir en los mercados resultan cruciales para generar competitividad en las naciones; sin embargo, la realidad es muy diferente, sobre todo en regiones como América Latina, donde, la contribución de este tipo de empresas al Producto Interno Bruto - PIB es relativamente baja, lo que revela deficiencias en sus niveles de productividad (OCDE/CEPAL, 2012). El objetivo de este trabajo es el de evaluar algunos aspectos de la competitividad de las empresas manufactureras en el municipio de Sincelejo; para esto, se indagó información en más de cien Mipymes. Aunque la mayoría de los empresarios encuestados (el 94,0%) consideró que su empresa es competitiva, éstas, tienen condiciones desventajosas en varias áreas organizacionales, que las hacen tener bajos niveles de competitividad. De acuerdo a los resultados empíricos existe una correlación positiva entre los ingresos operacionales y el tamaño de las firmas, de esta forma, la pequeña empresa pareciera estar en desventaja con relación a la gran empresa
