El turista y la percepción del riesgo: el rol de la gestión de la información sobre la imagen de los destinos que han sufrido atentados terroristas

The Tourist and the Risk Perception. Role of the Information Management on the Images of Destinations that Have Suffered Terrorist Attacks. In face of terrorist acts with similar consequences regarding the quantity of victims the reaction is not the same: in some cases the international arrivals of tourists is easily recovered but in other cases the destination seems to suffer a process of stigmatization which negatively impacts tourism for a long time. The present article analyzes relations between risk perception and information management, supposing that the information management can affect the perception of the risk of visiting a destination. A documentary and bibliographical analysis was done in conjunction with a behavioral study with a convenience sample of potential tourists. The ZMET technique was used, where the participants were divided into 4 subgroups, each one received a different set of stimuli of two destinations, Egypt and France, some of them with images of violence and some others not. Although with differences according to the received stimuli, the results show greater familiarity and solidarity with the destination France and greater ignorance and incomprehension of the public attitude in the destination Egypt. The concepts Terrorism in Egypt and Risk in France appeared in the groups which received stimuli with images of violence, showing a combination of perceptions related with the previous information plus the information offered by the interviewer. It is concluded that information management is a key factor in the decision making of the tourist and that it is necessary to provide resources adequately to maximize the destinations.Ante actos terroristas con similar cantidad de víctimas la reacción no siempre es la misma: en algunos casos la recuperación del destino en cuanto a las llegadas de turistas internacionales es rápida, mientras que otros destinos parecen sufrir un proceso de estigmatización prolongando los impactos del atentado en el tiempo. El presente artículo analiza relaciones entre percepción del riesgo y gestión de la información, suponiendo que esta última puede afectar la percepción del riesgo de visitar el destino. Se realizó un análisis documental y bibliográfico y un estudio comportamental con una muestra de conveniencia de potenciales turistas. Se utilizó la técnica ZMET, donde los participantes fueron divididos en 4 subgrupos y a cada uno se aplicó un conjunto de estímulos diferentes de dos destinos, Egipto y Francia, algunos de los cuales contenían imágenes de violencia y otros no. Si bien con diferencias según los estímulos recibidos, los resultados mostraron mayor familiaridad y solidaridad con el destino Francia y mayor desconocimiento e incomprensión de la actitud pública en el destino Egipto. En los grupos con estímulos de violencia aparecieron los conceptos Terrorismo en Egipto y Riesgo en Francia, señalando una combinación de percepciones relacionadas con la información previa y la ofrecida por la entrevistadora. Se concluye que la gestión de la información constituye un factor clave en la toma de decisiones del turista y es necesario por ende destinarle recursos adecuadamente para potenciar los destino
