This paper brings together main developments of an ongoing research project and it is organized in two sections. First, I contextualize the professional-technical secondary education (PTE) in Argentina and Brazil based on political, social, and economic aspects that guided the transformation of this type of education in recent years. Second, I analyze the legal framework that provide order and organize PTE in both countries. The paper utilizes three analytical categories: the role of the state, structure and organization of TPE, and financing. The paper concludes with an analysis of similarities and differences of both cases based on the organization, structure, and administration of PTE.
