ABSTRACT: Under unpredictable environments, such as arid regions, seed dormancy mechanisms are important for plant populations perpetuation. Many plant species have light requirements to germinate, then photoblastism and dormancy mechanisms have been associated with seed banks. In arid regions, water is a limiting factor for seed germination and seedling establishment. Therefore, the existence of a soil seed bank may increase the chance of a seed to coincide with a precipitation event.
