Acceso y elección escolar de familias migrantes en Chile: No tuve problemas porque la escuela es abierta, porque acepta muchas nacionalidades

In terms of migration, Chile could be considered a nation that sends more migrants than it receives, as almost one million people have emigrated in the past, and for every immigrant who lives in Chile, three Chileans live abroad. However, over the past 25 years, there has been an increase in the number of people migrating to Chile. This movement has not only involved adults in search of better conditions and opportunities, but also school-age children and adolescents. Hence, in a context characterized by a quasi-market education model in which school choice plays a major role in defining the school experience for students and their families, the aim of this paper is to explore how choosing a school can act as a form of inclusion into the education system and the broader society, based on the idea that schools can be potential sites of both social exclusion and inclusion.En términos de migración, Chile podría considerarse una nación que envía más migrantes de los que recibe, ya que casi un millón de personas ha emigrado en el pasado y por cada migrante que vive en Chile, tres chilenos viven en el exterior. Sin embargo durante los últimos 25 años ha habido un aumento del fenómeno inmigratorio en Chile el cual no solo ha involucrado a adultos en búsqueda de mejores condiciones y oportunidades, sino también a niños y adolescentes en edad escolar. Por lo tanto, en un contexto caracterizado por un modelo de cuasi mercado educativo en el que el proceso de elección escolar juega un rol importante en la experiencia de los estudiantes y sus familias, este artículo busca explorar cómo dicho proceso puede actuar como una forma de inclusión en el sistema educativo y en la sociedad en general, teniendo en cuenta que las escuelas pueden ser potencialmente sitios tanto de exclusión como de inclusión social
