Enfoques de aprendizaje en estudiantes universitarios en el área de Salud Pública

The purpose of this study is to analyze the different learning approaches, and their intensity, adopted by the students of the Universidad de Buenos Aires, in the Nutrition course of studies, in the public health care area, so as to demonstrate the way in which these students undertake their studies. Seventy seven students in a public health care class, taught during the second year of the course of studies, were assessed, as well as 41 students in the same class, taught in the fourth year. The study was a cross-sectional one. The questionnaire designed by Biggs was applied, translated and validated so as to fit the Argentine context by Witriw, anonymously and voluntarily. Based on this, the Mann-Whitney test was applied. Most of the students adopted a superficial learning approach (71.4% in the second year and 51.2% in the fourth year students), with a low intensity. The superficial approach was significantly more present in the second year students than in the fourth year students (Mann-Whitney test). It is suggested that changes be fostered, regarding the area being studied, so as to enable students to adopt a deeper learning approach.El propósito de este trabajo es analizar los distintos enfoques de aprendizaje, y la intensidad de los mismos, utilizados por los alumnos de la Licenciatura en Nutrición de la Universidad de Buenos Aires en el área de Salud Pública, para demostrar el modo en que los estudiantes afrontan su estudio. Fueron evaluados 77 alumnos de una asignatura del área de Salud Pública del 2 año de la carrera y 41 alumnos de una asignatura de la misma área del 4 año. El estudio realizado fue de tipo transversal. Se aplicó el cuestionario diseñado por Biggs, traducido y validado al contexto argentino por la autora principal, en forma anónima y voluntaria. La mayoría de los alumnos adoptaron un enfoque de aprendizaje superficial en un 71,4% en la materia de segundo año (con medias mayores en forma significativa en función al test de Mann-Whitney) y 51,2% en la materia de 4 año, con una intensidad baja. Se sugiere propiciar cambios en el contexto relacionados al área estudiada para permitir la elección de enfoques de aprendizaje profundos en los alumnos
