The aim of this article is analyzing the process of formation of the clerical and anti-clerical collective identities. Both of them were determining factors of the mobilization in religious conflict in Spain between 1898 and 1913. The city of Toledo has been researched as an example of the clash between those identities in the country. The methodology is based on the theory of collective identities defined by Alberto Melucci and Sidney Tarrow. According to this, social movements base on collective identities in which a number of individuals construct shared definitions and perceptions of their environment.
