In this article we present the partial results of a research in contrastive linguistics based on judgments of acceptability to determine the semantic relationship between the perfect tense of Spanish peninsular and the perfect tense of European Portuguese. In the first place we make a review of the specialized bibliography to determine which are the temporal and aspectual determinants in the use of the preterit. Next, we explain the methodological design used to undertake the comparison.
