L'aportació de Mallorca a la Campanya del Rosselló contra Jaume III de Mallorca

The enmity between Jaime II of Mallorca and Pedro IV of Aragón was settled with the conquer of the Balearic Kingdom(1343) and the military intervention in the Rosellón county(1344-45). Both military interventions were very different in their development. In the Kingdom of Mallorca, where there were a very populated Catalan colony, Pedro IV demanded respect to his army towards The City and its countryside, encountering no resistance neither from institutions or the population. The City was freed of the looting and it was in its Cathedral where the monarch was crowned king. The situation in the Rosellón county was completely different. Their Castles were looted and burned, the countryside devastated and its population had to live the horrors of the war. To finance this second war campaign against Jaime III, the king of Aragón forced the Balearic Kingdom to contribute with big sums of money, soldiers and vessels. With this first finance contribution, it started the economic drain of the Kingdom, and its slow and progressive impoverishment of a such a rich and prosper Kingdom.La enemistad entre Jaime II de Mallorca y Pedro IV de Aragón se saldó con la conquista del reino Balear (1343) y la posterior intervención armada en el condado del Rosellón (1344-45). Ambas intervenciones militares difieren sustancialmente en cuanto a su desarrollo. En el reino de Mallorca, donde habitaba una numerosa colonia filocatalana, Pedro IV mandó respetar la ciudad y su campiña, pues la población y las instituciones apenas opusieron resistencia. La Ciutat se libró del saqueo y en ella el monarca aragonés fue coronado rey en la catedral. La actuación en el Rosellón fue distinta. Sus castillos fueron saqueados y quemados, la campiña sufrió una tala indiscriminada y sus habitantes sufrieron los horrores de la guerra al ofrecer una enconada resistencia. Para financiar esta segunda campaña contra Jaime III, el rey de Aragón obligó al reino insular a contribuir con grandes sumas de dinero, hombres y efectivos náuticos. Con esta primera aportación financiera se iniciaba la sangría económica del reino, y el lento y progresivo empobrecimiento de un reino rico y próspero
