The title of “commentator” ascribed to Alexander of Aphrodisias (c. 200 AD) by posterior philosophers reveals his important contribution to the elucidation of Aristotle’s thought. This title, however, conceals the fact that, in the attempt to fulfill the insufficiencies and emergent problems of the Aristotelian text, Alexander himself developed by proper arguments a consistent philosophical doctrine, which in some aspects does not have any resonance in the first master and that also arises new issues.
