The main aim of this paper is to analyse the theoretical and methodological basis of research on narrative thinking and levels of historical literacy in teacher training program for primary education. This approach has been used to design and develop a tool to analyse quantitative and qualitative data. The pilot study was conducted through a historical synthesis of one of the main narrative of the history of Spain: Christian expansion in Muslim territories on the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages.
