Psychology and Aging (2003-2012): Productividad y rasgos desde los artículos originales

The present paper carriers out a bibliometric analysis of the Psychology and Aging journal in the time period 2003-2012. This journal is important in the Gerontology and in Developmental Psychology. The aim is to asses its scientific productivity and main features by using general indicators. In order to obtain the necessary data, a total of 887 works from the WOK, SCImago Journal & Country Rank and Scopus databases have been used. Results show that it is a quarterly journal with publications in English aimed to the disclosure of original information about human development and aging processes. It’s distinguished by its increased production and its important relevance. The year with greater impact is 2006, althought it is in 2003 when it is the first in the ranking of the most prominent jounals in the field of Aging. The country that publishes most journals is USA, followed by Germany, and it shows endogenity. The most prolific author is U. Linderberguer and the entity with most publications is Max-Planck-Institute für Bildungsforschung. Their publications vary between 10-12 pages, and the most important is “How young and older adults diff in their responses to perceived age discrimination” (Garstka, Schmitt, Branscombe, & Hummert, 2004).El presente artículo realiza un análisis bibliométrico de la revista Psychology and Aging en el intervalo temporal 2003-2012. Esta revista es relevante en el área de la Gerontología y de la psicología del desarrollo. El objetivo es evaluar su productividad científica y principales características mediante indicadores generales. Para obtener los datos necesarios se han empleado las plataformas WOK, SCImago Journal & Country Rank y Scopus, en un total de 887 trabajos. Los resultados señalan que es una revista trimestral con publicaciones en inglés dirigida a la divulgación de información original sobre desarrollo y envejecimiento. Destaca por su incremento en la producción y su gran nivel de obsolescencia. El año con mayor impacto es 2006, aunque es en 2003 cuando se sitúa en la cabeza del ranking de las revistas más destacadas en el área de envejecimiento. El país más productor es EE.UU., seguido por Alemania y muestra un carácter endógeno. El autor más prolijo es U. Lindenberger y la entidad más productora es el Max-Planck-Institute für Bildungsforschung. Sus publicaciones varían entre 10-12 páginas, y la más relevante es “How young and older adults diff in their responses to perceived age discrimination” (Garstka, Schmitt, Branscombe y Hummert, 2004)
