The article presents a compendium of the social research the authors and others have done on obstetric violence in Mexico through more than two decades. The main hindrance this investigation faces is the conceptualization of this matter from the same medical field as a problem of "care quality". Undoubtedly, there is a care quality problem in every women rights violation in the healthcare system but the issue does not end there. The predominance of this mistaken construction of the problem explains the systematic failure the awareness campaigns and efforts to increase sensitivity directed to physicians have faced; CONAMED statistics demonstrate said failures.
