This work analyzes the mapuche, tehuelche and western society contact processes through photographs taken in Patagonia from the late 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Our purpose is to assess the social practices and incorporation of foreign material culture by these groups, in order to analyze and compare their contact processes with the early Argentinian state. We followed the perspective of “visual archaeology”, which considers photographs as cultural artifacts that contain information about the photographed subjects and their material culture, as well as about the photographer.
