In this article I examine the Virgin of Guadalupe celebration that takes place in the parish of San Martín Obispo in Puebla, Mexico, which underwent several changes in recent decades. The analysis seeks to link the study of the Guadalupe image to the social group that sponsors the festivities, the merchants; it highlights the changes that have taken place around this Marian devotion in recent years; and finally, outlines the importance of this celebration in the social field to which it belongs. The study is a good opportunity to understand the complex historical processes that came along the consolidation of the Guadalupe worship in the parish of St. Martin, as well as the power field and influence that individual actors have woven around its celebration.En este artículo examino la festividad de la Virgen de Guadalupe que tiene lugar en la parroquia de San Martín Obispo en Puebla, México, la cual experimentó diversos cambios en décadas recientes. El análisis procura enlazar el estudio de la imagen guadalupana al grupo social que patrocina los festejos, los comerciantes; subrayar los cambios que ha ten ido este culto mariano en años recientes; y, finalmente, delinear la importancia que reviste la celebración en el ámbito social del que forma parte. El estudio es una buena oportunidad para entender los complejos procesoshistóricos que acompañaron la consolidación del culto guadalupano en la parroquia de San Martín, así como el campo de poder e influencia que actores particulares han tejido en torno a su festividad
