El invierno en Lisboa, la ciudad de la literatura al cine

Antonio Muñoz Molina’s novels offer a very large field to study the relationship between real and imaginaries cities. We have chosen the El invierno en Lisboa (1987) because there we can find much more than the city of Lisbon, as well as many other Muñoz Molina's novels: the contrast between San Sebastián, the city where characters live, and the other, Lisbon, which becomes a myth in itself as it represents the loved one. We will point out that the cities are not only the stage where events unfold but they serve also to deliver an essential message of the book: express the profound existential disappointment of the character. We will also compare this novel and the movie by José Antonio Zorrilla (1990), in order to show the novel's singularity, as tribute to jazz music as well as the movie's limits: the movie focuses the musician figure rather than on the complex relationship between man and city’s space.La narrativa de Antonio Muñoz Molina presenta un campo muy amplio para enfocar la relación entre ciudades reales y ciudades imaginarias. Escogemos el caso ejemplar de la novela El invierno en Lisboa (1987) ya que, en ella, hay mucho más que la ciudad de Lisboa, como en otras muchas novelas de Muñoz Molina, con esa contraposición entre la ciudad donde viven los personajes, San Sebastián, y otra, Lisboa, mitificada en la tensión amorosa del protagonista que la asocia con la figura amada. Destacaremos que, en la obra de Muñoz Molina, las ciudades no son solamente un elemento del decorado sino que sirven al mensaje esencial del libro: expresar la profunda desilusión existencial del personaje. Una comparación con la adaptación al cine por José Antonio Zorrilla (1990) con el mismo título nos permitirá confirmar la singularidad de la novela y enjuiciar cualidades como el homenaje al jazz y los límites de la película, centrada en la figura del músico más que en la reflexión sobre la relación compleja del hombre con el espacio urbano
