The discussion regarding the relation betweenconsumption, credit and poverty has long-standingin Chilean sociology. How do poor familiesrelate to credit in Chile? Which aspect of povertydoes credit resolve – if it does- and which are itslimitations? In the following article we aim to takeup these questions, in light of a renewal in boththe concept of poverty and its numbers in Chile.Poverty cannot be reduced to the simple lack ofincome, but instead presents itself as a multidimensionalphenomenon, that keeps families fromaccessing the social resources that are necessaryin order to develop fully.
