Against the background of Thomas Aquinas’s distribution of cognitive functions to four really distinct interior senses – the common sense, the phantasy alias the imagination,the cogitative power and the memory alias the reminiscence –, I present Francisco Suárez’s substantial reduction of the cognitive scope of his single internal sense, which he calls phantasia.
