Patrones de representación posfeministas en Girls: análisis de los significados construidos por fans y detractores

This article explores, from a feminist perspective, the readings and the public discourse elaborated by the Spanish followers of Girls (HBO-Canal +, 2012- present), an American television show on the life of four twentysomething women in New York, created by and starring Lena Dunham. We have analyzed the comments of six blogs (FormulaTv, Vertele, Jenesaipop, Blogelpaís, Foro Vandal and Foro Vogue) from the beginning of the series until October 2016 (Season 5). The study focuses on the characterization and subsequent reception of particular traits of postfeminist representation in the show’s plots and characters: authenticity, self-regulation of the body and agency/choice (Gill, 2007a; Gill 2007b; Gill, 2008). The results show a great diversity of readings (Hall, 1973) by followers in approving and especially rejecting the main protagonist, Hannah/Lena Dunham, who simultaneously incarnates the show’s feminist and postfeminist competitive frames (Weitz, 2016). The intention of authenticity is the most appreciated among the Spanish followers of Girls, while manifestations of self-regulation of the body and the characters’ articulation of ‘choice’ provoke more rejection in both fans and haters. Our main conclusion is that the representations of women and femininity in Girls lead viewers to the construction of a postfeminist notion, mobilizing feminist and antifeminist attitudes simultaneously in their blog comments, but without engaging in an in-depth debate on these issues.El artículo indaga, desde una perspectiva feminista, en las lecturas y el discurso público que elaboran las y los seguidores españoles de Girls (HBO-Canal +, 2012- actualidad), una serie televisiva norteamericana creada y protagonizada por Lena Dunham sobre la vida de cuatro veinteañeras en la ciudad de Nueva York. Hemos analizado los comentarios de seis blogs (FormulaTv, Vertele, Jenesaipop, Blogelpaís, Foro Vandal y Foro Vogue) desde el inicio de la serie hasta octubre de 2016 (temporada 5). El estudio se ha centrado en la caracterización y posterior recepción de algunos de los rasgos del régimen de representación posfeminista en las tramas y los personajes de la serie: la autenticidad, la autorregulación del cuerpo y la agencia/libertad de elección (Gill, 2007a; Gill 2007b; Gill, 2008). Los resultados muestran una gran diversidad lecturas (Hall, 1973) en forma de aprobaciones - y sobre todo rechazos -de estas manifestaciones, enfocados principalmente a su protagonista principal, Hannah/Lena Dunham, que encarna de forma simultánea y paradójica los marcos feminista y posfeminista que compiten en la serie (Weitz, 2016). La intención de autenticidad es la que más se aprecia entre el público de Girls, mientras que las manifestaciones de autorregulación del cuerpo y la articulación de la libertad de elección de los personajes provocan algo más de rechazo. Aún así, la conclusión principal es que las representaciones de las feminidades de la serie construyen en las y los espectadores una noción posfeminista que moviliza actitudes feministas y antifeministas a la vez, sin que esto garantice en los blogs analizados un debate a fondo sobre estas cuestiones
