Estrategia e Imperio Romano: un balance historiográfico a 40 años de la publicación de The Grand Strategy of the Roman Empire

This article has two purposes. First of all, analyze the historiographical discussion arose with the publication of The grand strategy of the Roman Empire by Edward Luttwak in 1976 to the present day, through the most relevant publications on the subject. In the second place, it is intended to establish an approach for the study of Roman strategic thought in the imperial period, based on a balance of more than 40 years of discussion. We have wanted to achieve a description in order to have a new starting point in the reflection of the geopolitical reality of the Roman Empire.El presente artículo tiene dos finalidades. En primer lugar analizar la discusión historiográfica sobre la estrategia imperial romana desde la publicación de The grand strategy of the Roman Empire de Edward Luttwak en 1976 hasta nuestros días, a través de las publicaciones más relevantes respecto al tema. En segundo lugar, se pretende establecer una aproximación para el estudio del pensamiento estratégico romano en época imperial a partir de un balance de más de 40 años de discusión. Hemos deseado con ello lograr una caracterización que permita un nuevo punto de partida en la reflexión de la realidad geopolítica del Imperio Romano
