We present a survey of 17th Century documents about the lingua geral which appear to have been written by a small group of Central European Jesuits (tapuitinga) that arrived in the Amazon region between 1750 and 1753, and we point out some of the strategies they employed for learning the lingua geral.O trabalho apresenta o levantamento de documentos setecentistas sobre a língua geral com indícios de terem sido escritos por um pequeno grupo de jesuítas da Europa Central (tapuitinga) que chegou à Amazônia entre 1750 e 1753 e aponta algumas das estratégias de aprendizado da língua geral empregadas por eles
