This article is centered on the interpretation of autobiographical traces in Kaurin, short books written by Edgar Sussekind de Mendonca in his childhood. Although the work is not entirely autobiographical -with the inclusion of letters, diaries, and calendars- the author reveals information about himself by creating a fictitious world. The research focuses on form as well as content, in an attempt to interpret the signs of family and school, as well as his reading; thus a dialogue is started with the historiography of education, books, and reading, as well as a historiography of written culture, particularly with regard to children's writing that is not restricted to schoolwork.
