Os Brasileiros que Retornam de Portugal: atividades Laborais Antes, Durante e Depois da Emigração

Migration of Brazilians abroad has been studied by a number of researchers from different disciplines. Transformation of the global economy over the past decade reversed trends of out-migration with the return of many emigrants back to Brazil, particularly those who had gone to Portugal. Portugal previously had been one of the main destinations for Brazilian emigrants but it became a major European victim of the global economic crisis. Therefore, for a group of Brazilians who returned from Portugal between 2005 and 2013 this article seeks to understand what kind of work they did before, during and after their migration. Structured interviews were conducted with 703 individuals from 54 municipalities in four different states between January, 2012 and January, 2013. The kind of work undertaken abroad was found to be particularly important for the reintegration of returning migrants based on the opportunity which they had for building human capital in Portugal. The results indicate the likelihood of remigration and point the way to possible avenues for public policies targeting returning Brazilians.A emigração internacional de brasileiros tem ocupado a agenda de diversos pesquisadores de diferentes áreas da ciência. As transformações na economia global que ocorreram nos últimos dez anos lançaram luz sobre a contracorrente desse movimento, o retorno de muitos brasileiros que haviam ido tentar a sorte no exterior. Nesse contexto, o retorno de brasileiros que viviam em Portugal ganha destaque, tanto por este país ter sido um dos principais destinos dos emigrantes brasileiros quanto por ter se transformado em uma das principais vítimas europeias da crise internacional. Logo, neste artigo, procura-se entender um pouco mais a situação laboral antes, durante e após a emigração de um grupo de brasileiros que retornaram de Portugal entre os anos de 2005 e 2013. Para atingir esse objetivo foram realizadas 703 entrevistas estruturadas em 54 municípios brasileiros de 4 estados diferentes, entre janeiro de 2012 e janeiro de 2013. As características dessas atividades laborais e sua comparação com as atividades exercidas no exterior dizem muito a respeito da reintegração dos retornados e do capital humano agregado durante a emigração. Os resultados podem indicar a probabilidade de reemigração e os caminhos possíveis para políticas públicas que tenham como alvo os brasileiros que retornam
