Comprender el poder para entender la seguridad en el siglo XXI

The study of power in the international system has been the subject of prolific studies by prominent scholars, such as Nye, Kissinger, Bremmer, Zakaria, Naim, Friedman or Kaplan, amongst others. Moreover, loads of literature have been written about specific aspects, such as terrorist groups or the geopolitics of energy. However, the key of this document shall be on the multidisciplinary focus to the concept of power, thereby systematically incorporating to the study of power variables and actors which are rarely included, so as to create a comprehensive model. Therefore, the present document is due to study the concept of power in contemporary International Relations: how it is composed of different variables and how it is exerted by a multitude of actors. Therefore, the main trends in the use of power, as well as the main challenges for the rest of the century will be underlined.El estudio del concepto de poder en el sistema internacional ha sido objeto de estudio por parte de prominentes académicos de la talla de Nye1, Kissinger2, Bremmer3 4, Zakaria5, Naim6, Friedman7 o Kaplan8, entre otros9 10. Se han escrito ríos de tinta sobre aspectos específicos, como el terrorismo o la geopolítica de la energía. Sin embargo, la clave de este documento yace en el enfoque multidisciplinar al concepto poder, incorporando sistemáticamente a su estudio variables y actores a menudo olvidados, para crear así un modelo integral. Por lo tanto, el presente documento estudiará el concepto de poder en las relaciones internacionales contemporáneas: su composición en distintas variables y su uso por diferentes actores. Igualmente, se destacarán las diferentes tendencias en el uso del poder, así como los principales desafíos durante el presente siglo
