The interest of researchers for the pain assessment and intervention in people with dementia is growing. Given the demographic trend to an increased aging population, increasing with pain conditions and progress in knowledge in the field of dementia, identify changes that occur in different brain areas involved in pain control. This review focuses on the changes that occur in the perception of pain in people with dementia as well as analyzing the most effective tools to identify, assess and treat pain in people with dementia.
