La resistencia de la Diosa: la Virgen de Guadalupe como formación de compromiso

After the conquest of Mexico an extraordinary event of religious syncretism occured: the creation of the Virgin of Guadalupe from the goddess Tonantzin. With its conversion into the Virgin, the integration of the indigenous population into Catholicism is achieved, and with that the uniformity of the religious faith. The new mythic figure is nominally Catholic, but the resistance of the original goddess persists. The devotion of the Virgin of Guadalupe is common to the great majority of Mexican people, who still today consider her as their mother. It also functions as the symbolic point of union of the Mexican population, independently of its origin. As happens with the cult of any Virgin, the cult of the Virgin of Guapadalupe is of identity nature (also emotional) for its connection with the space. However, in this case rather than being local, the space covers the whole territory of Mexico.Tras la conquista de México se produce un extraordinario fenómeno de sincretismo religioso: la creación de la Virgen de Guadalupe a partir de la diosa Tonantzin. Con su conversión en Virgen se consigue la integración de la población indígena al catolicismo y, con ello, la uniformización de la fe religiosa. La nueva figura mítica es nominalmente católica, pero en ella pervive la resistencia de la diosa originaria. La devoción a la Virgen de Guadalupe es común a una gran mayoría de mexicanos, que aún hoy la consideran directamente su madre, al tiempo, el punto de unión simbólica de la población mexicana, con independencia de su origen. Como sucede con el culto a cualquier otra virgen, el de la Virgen de Guadalupe es de naturaleza identitaria (además de emocional) por su vínculo con un espacio.
