Manejo del estrés para el control metabólico de personas con diabetes mellitus tipo 2

The aim of the study was to teach adults the use of techniques for stress management in order to obtain a relaxation response and improve the metabolic control of diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2). There were 8 adults 25% women and 75% men (the rank of age went from 43 to 69 years). A non-probability sampling by convenience was used. The investigation had three phases; retrospective line base (90 days), treatment (56 days) and follow up (90 days). To know if learning these stress management techniques improved the metabolic control of DM2, a test of Glycosylated Hemoglobin (A1C) was taken before and after the treatment. The participants were taught to register their glucose levels, and practice techniques for stress control (Focused attention on breathing, muscular relaxation, guided imagery, cognitive reorganization, physical activity and social support). In conclusion, the treatment allowed 7 of the 8 patients to improve or maintain the metabolic control of their DM2.El objetivo del estudio fue enseñar a adultos el uso de técnicas para el manejo del estrés, para lograr una respuesta de relajación y mejorar el control metabólico de su diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2). Participaron ocho personas adultas, 25% mujeres y 75% hombres (con un rango de edad de 43 a 69 años). Se utilizó un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. La investigación tuvo tres fases: línea base retrospectiva (90 días), tratamiento (56 días) y seguimiento (90 días). Para conocer si usar estas técnicas mejoraba el control metabólico, se hizo una prueba de Hemoglobina Glucosilada (HbA1c) antes y después del tratamiento. Durante el tratamiento se enseñó a los participantes a tomar el registro de su glucosa y a practicar técnicas de control del estrés (atención en la respiración, relajación muscular, imaginación guiada, reestructuración cognitiva, actividad física y apoyo social). En conclusión, el tratamiento permitió que siete de los ocho participantes mejoraran o mantuvieran el control metabólico de su DM2
